Details
This ad hoc release provides provisional statistics on wildfires attended by fire and rescue services in England from 1 April 2010 to 31 August 2026.
The release includes three Excel workbooks covering:
- the number of wildfires, with breakdowns by fire and rescue authority, month, cause, outdoor location type and area burned
- wildfires involving casualties, including fire-related fatalities, non-fatal casualties and severity of injury
- the number and types of fire and rescue service appliances used at wildfires
For these statistics, wildfires are defined as outdoor fires where more than 1,000 square metres of land was burned.
The figures for 2010 and 2026 do not cover complete calendar years. Data for 2010 begin on 1 April, while data for 2026 cover incidents up to 31 August. Figures for 2026 are provisional, may underestimate the number of wildfires that occurred and may be revised as further records are received.
The data are taken from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Fire and Rescue Data Platform.
