This statistical release has been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We advise users to consult the accompanying background information and methodology report which provides further detail:

• on the impacts upon FRS data collection and findings
• on the presentation of the statistics
• on the handling of uncertainty
• on the interpretation of these statistics.

The Family Resources Survey (FRS) is a continuous household survey which collects information on a representative sample of private households in the United Kingdom.

Detailed information is recorded on each respondent:

• their incomes, from all sources including self-employment
• housing tenure
• caring needs and responsibilities
• disability
• expenditure on housing
• education
• pension participation
• childcare
• family circumstances
• child maintenance
• household food security

We have also published a background note, and accompanying data tables in XLS and ODS format.
