Statistics on attitudes around air travel, ferry travel, international travel and concerns when travelling during the pandemic, asked of people who have previously completed the National Travel Survey (NTS).
Questions in Wave 6 were asked to 2,286 individuals, covering a range of topics including:
- use of air and ferry travel before and during the pandemic
- sources of information for air travel
- travelling to airports and ports
- international travel plans with regards to travel rules
- concerns when travelling during the pandemic
11% of respondents had travelled abroad by plane in the 12 months before taking part in Wave 6 of the National Travel Attitudes Survey (NTAS) in September 2021. When the same respondents took part in the NTS 2019, 52% said they had flown abroad in the previous 12 months.
When surveyed in September 2021, the majority of Wave 6 respondents would not consider travelling to other countries, regardless of whether they were on the green, amber or red list.
The share of NTAS respondents that reported to be very concerned for their health if they were to travel by plane decreased from 62% in Wave 4 (August to September 2020) to 34% in Wave 6 (September 2021).
