Details

Statistics on freight moved within the UK by water transport.

In 2016:

• coastwise traffic fell by 11% to 21.7 billion tonne-kilometres
• one-port traffic increased by 27% to 7.4 billion tonne-kilometres
• inland waters traffic increased by 7% to 1.6 billion tonne-kilometres

The total amount of goods moved for all domestic waterborne freight declined by 3% to 30.4 billion-tonne kilometres compared to the previous year.
