This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government
Christian Turner

“The UK condemns the recent violence on the Kenyan Coast, particularly the recent attack on church-goers in Likoni on 23 March. We are also concerned by the shooting of Sheikh Abubakar Shariff (Makaburi) and a second individual on 1 April.

“We echo calls for calm and restraint emanating from local community leaders at the Coast, and encourage urgent dialogue between all communities.

“It is vital that the people responsible for these crimes are held to account under the law, and in that vein we urge the authorities to conduct a full investigation into these incidents.

“We have updated our travel advice to reflect the facts of these incidents and warned British nationals to be vigilant.”
