Queen's Speech: Climate change

Notes on: "My Government will seek effective global collaboration to sustain economic recovery and to combat climate change, including at the climate change conference in Mexico later this year."

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Reasons for this policy

Global climate change is one of the biggest challenges the world faces. It is the greatest threat to our common future.

This government is committed to tackling climate change both at home and abroad and we will use every influence we have internationally to get a global deal to tackle climate change.

The Prime Minister has said he wants this Government to be the greenest ever - both in terms of action at home and internationally.

Commitments from Programme of Government:

We will push for the EU to demonstrate leadership in tackling international climate change, including by supporting an increase in the EU emission reduction target to 30 per cent by 2020.

We will work towards an ambitious global climate deal that will limit emissions and explore the creation of new international sources of funding for the purpose of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

We will explore ways of helping the very poorest developing countries to take part in international climate change negotiations.
