This written ministerial statement was laid in the House of Commons on 15 February 2011 by James Brokenshire, and in the House of Lords by Baroness Neville-Jones.

I am pleased to announce the following appointments to the ethics group which provides ministers with independent ethical advice on the operation and practice of the national DNA database (NDNAD):

  • Professor David Latchman CBE
  • Dr Nina Hallowell

Professor Latchman and Dr Hallowell replace two members of the group who have now stepped down. Eight current members of the ethics group have been reappointed for a further three-year term. They are:

  • Dr Derrick Campbell
  • Mrs Wendy Coates
  • Ms Madeleine Colvin
  • Dr Jane Pearson
  • Dr Clive Richards
  • Dr Sameer Sarkar
  • Ms Sarah Thewlis
  • Dr Suzy Walton
