Yorkshire Water Services Limited (YW) has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to vary the release of water (compensation flow) from their Thruscross Reservoir at National Grid Reference SE 15 57 following trials carried out by YW since August 2016.

There is currently no compensation flow requirement from Thruscross Reservoir. The purpose of the compensation flow is to provide an ecological benefit to the downstream watercourse. YW are proposing to formalise the compensation flows as follows:

To release 16,900 cubic metres per day of water from the reservoir from 1st January to 15th April and 16th November to 31st December; 8,200 cubic metres per day from 16th April to 15th May and 16th October to 15th November; 3,900 cubic metres per day from 16th May to 15th October.
