Details of the application

Yorkshire Water Services Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 2/27/12/041 which authorises the abstraction of water from the following 11 reservoirs in the Upper Hebden Valley, Luddenden Valley, and Hebble Valley.

  • The Upper Hebden Valley contains the reservoirs: Walshaw Dean (Upper, Middle and Lower) at SD 96 34, SD 96 33 and SD 95 33; Gorple (Upper and Lower) at SD 92 31 and SD 94 31 and Widdop at SD 93 32.

  • The Luddenden Valley contains the reservoirs: Warley Moor at SE 02 31 and Dean Head (Upper and Lower) at SE 02 30 and SE 02 30.

  • The Hebble Valley contains the reservoirs: Ogden at SE 06 30 and Mixenden SE 06 28.

The existing licence allows the abstraction of water for public water supply. The proposal is to increase the annual licensed quantity from 15,695,000 cubic metres per year to 20,075,000 cubic metres per year.

The proposed licence will impose new daily abstraction limits. For all 11 reservoirs a maximum quantity of 65,000 cubic metres per day will apply. The following limits will also be in force:

  • For Upper Hebden Valley there will be a maximum quantity of 55,000 cubic metres per day.

  • For Luddenden Valley there will be a maximum quantity of 16,000 cubic metres per day.

  • For Hebble Valley there will be a maximum quantity of 15,000 cubic metres per day.
