1. Summary

  • All regions of England have been at Cold Weather Alert level 1 ‘winter preparedness and action’ since 1 November 2013.
  • No significant excess all-cause mortality was reported across the UK in week 44 (28 October 2013 to 3 November 2013).
  • There is nothing of significance to report from all syndromic surveillance systems during week 44 (28 October 2013 to 3 November 2013).
  • Indicators of influenza activity are at minimal levels suggesting no community transmission at present.
  • In the 2 weeks between 23 October 2013 and 5 November 2013, the hospital norovirus outbreak reporting scheme (HNORS) recorded 2 suspected or confirmed outbreaks of norovirus, both of which led to ward and bay closures or restrictions to admissions and both were recorded as laboratory confirmed due to norovirus.
