Whitemoss Landfill Holdings Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a full licence and a transfer licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application for the full licence is to abstract water from a borehole into the Shirdley Hill Sand Formation & Lower Coal Measures aquifer at National Grid Reference (NGR) SD 47092 04987 at Whitemoss Landfill, White Moss Road South, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, WN8 9TH.

The application is to abstract water as follows for the purpose of dust suppression:

  • 6 cubic metres an hour
  • 48 cubic metres a day
  • 10,400 cubic metres a year
  • All year.

The application for the transfer licence is to abstract water from boreholes into the Shirdley Hill Sand Formation & Lower Coal Measures aquifer, at National Grid References SD 47103 05316, SD 46983 05345 and SD 46954 05374 at Whitemoss Landfill, White Moss Road South, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, WN8 9TH. All water will be transferred without intervening use to a drain at NGR SD 47183 05339, which is within the Whitemoss Landfill site.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 20 cubic metres an hour
  • 480 cubic metres a day
  • 175,200 cubic metres a year
  • All year.
