Weymouth Harbour Revision Order 2025
On 6 January 2025, Dorset Council, the statutory harbour authority for Weymouth Harbour (“the applicant”) made a formal application to the Marine Management Organisation (“MMO”) under Section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for a Harbour Revision Order (“HRO”).

On 6 January 2025, Dorset Council, the statutory harbour authority for Weymouth Harbour (“the applicant”) made a formal application to the Marine Management Organisation (“MMO”) under Section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for a Harbour Revision Order (“HRO”).
If made, section 33 (also known as ‘the Open Port Duty’) of the Harbours, Docks and Piers Clauses Act 1847 would only apply to vessels under 24 metres in length in the Harbour, and would not apply at all to the area shaded red on the peninsula plan (uploaded below). This covers all existing current frequent users of the Harbour and allows flexibility for the Council to accept larger vessels on an ad hoc basis at its discretion.
The statutory 42-day public consultation on the HRO starts on 20 June 2025. The final date for consultation responses to be received is 1 August 2025. Any person desiring to make an objection or representation concerning the application should write to:

An objection or representation should:
- Be received before the expiry of a period of 42-days consultation period.
- Be made in writing and quoting reference HRO/2025/00001
- State the grounds of the objection or representation.
- Indicate who is making the objection or representation; and
- Give an address to which correspondence relating to the objection or representation may be sent.
