Weymouth Harbour Revision Order
On 8 July 2020, Dorset Council (“the applicant”) made a formal application to the Marine Management Organisation (“the MMO”) under Section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964 for the Lyme Regis and Bridport (West Bay) Harbour Revision Order. A separate application for the Weymouth Harbour Revision Order was made by the applicant on 6 January 2025. The two applications have been amalgamated into one Harbour Revision Order.

Details
The Lyme Regis, Bridport (West Bay) and Weymouth Harbour Revision Order 2026 (“the Order”) grants the applicant modernised powers for general and special directions and provides clarification of the harbour limits for Lyme Regis and Bridport (West Bay) harbours. The Order also sets out the penalty for offences relating to moorings and failure to comply with directions. The Order restricts the application of section 33 of the Harbours Docks and Piers Clauses Act 1847 in Weymouth only to amend the Open Port Duty so that it does not apply to vessels over 24 metres in length. The statutory 42-day public consultation on the Lyme Regis and Bridport (West Bay) Harbour Revision Order ran from 26 January 2023 to 9 March 2023. The consultation period for the Weymouth Harbour Revision Order ran from 20 June 2025 to 1 August 2025.
The MMO approved the making of the Order on 26 February 2026, details of the decision-making process can be viewed in the Order and decision report attached to this page. The Order will be laid before parliament on 30 January 2026 and will come into force on 20 February 2026.
