Western United Mines Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from New Cooks Kitchen Shaft at National Grid Reference (NGR) SW 66447 40969 to transfer it via the Dolcoath Adit to the Red River at National Grid References SW 64828 41558 and SW 66236 40516 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 1,041.60 cubic metres an hour
  • 25,000 cubic metres a day
  • 9,150,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Further details are: They have applied to discharge the transferred water at two points, however they may choose to discharge the full 25,000 cubic metres per day at NGR SW 64828 41885 as circumstances require.
