Wates Construction Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Glacial Till underground strata at Hindley, Wigan within the boundary formed by straight lines running between the following National Grid References (NGRs) SD 61666 02818, SD 62085 02889, SD 62175 02383 and SD 61744 02488, and to transfer all water abstracted to an un-named brook at NGRs SD 62035 02792 and SD 62065 02760 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 159 cubic metres an hour
  • 3,802 cubic metres a day
  • 1,387,584 cubic metres a year.

Abstraction will take place all year throughout the construction period to allow for the dewatering of the site.
