An application has been made to the Environment Agency by Wainstones Energy Limited. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the River Mersey at Carrington, National Grid Reference (NGR) SJ 73617 93105.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 1,988 cubic metres an hour
  • 47,711 cubic metres a day
  • 12,455,212 cubic metres a year

Between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for evaporative cooling and Demineralisation for the production of energy. The application is to support a proposed power station at Carrington, Trafford. 30% of the abstracted water will be discharged back into the River Mersey immediately downstream of the abstraction point.
