VolkerStevin Infrastructure Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from a sandstone aquifer near the River Kent, Cumbria, at National Grid References A: SD 51928 92963, B: SD 51929 92950, C: SD 51952 92921 and D: SD 51942 92882 – SD 51967 92923 - SD 51924 92961 (reach).

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 54 cubic metres an hour
  • 432 cubic metres a day (864 cubic metres a day from May/June 2024)
  • 105,840 cubic metres a year
  • All year.
