Overview
View your education data (VYED) is a secure online portal that allows organisations to access and analyse data held by the Department for Education (DfE).
The service provides interactive dashboards, reports and tools. These support activities such as monitoring school attendance and comparing financial data for colleges.
VYED offers analytical insights to help organisations improve business intelligence and make informed decisions.
Who can use VYED
VYED can be used by a range of users including:
- educational establishments like schools, academies and colleges
- further education (FE) providers
- academy trusts
- mayoral strategic authorities (MSAs)
- local authorities (LAs)
- DfE employees
- government departments and agencies
Where the data comes from
Data in VYED comes from 2 main sources. The source used depends on the report you are viewing.
Data from your school or provider’s management information system (MIS)
This includes information such as:
- daily or weekly attendance
- pupil‑level details
This data is extracted automatically from your MIS.
Data submitted to DfE
This includes official data that schools, colleges and local authorities submit to DfE. Examples include:
- the school census
- the individualised learner record (ILR)
How to access VYED
To access VYED, organisations firstly need to log in via DFE Sign-in. You can create a DFE Sign-in account if you do not have one.
Once you have access to DfE Sign-in you will need to request access to your organisation and add the required VYED sub-service to your account. If you are creating a DfE Sign-in account for the first time, you will need to join an organisation before you can add VYED as a service.
For more detailed information on how to get access and approvals see the VYED access guide.
What to expect once you log in
Once you log in, you should see the VYED portal page with the sub-services that you have access to. To access your dashboards and other data products, click on the sub-service and follow the links.
If you cannot see the services that you need access to, refer to the VYED access guide.
