This guidance is to inform about the use of light-emitting variable message signs (VMS) capable of displaying text and pictograms.
A VMS encompasses all types of variable sign from simple flap-type fixed signs to complex light-emitting panels.
The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 20022, describe a VMS as: “a device capable of displaying, at different times, two or more aspects…”.
