United Utilities Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from superficial deposits between National Grid References SD 80 08, SD 81 08, SD 81 07 and SD 80 07, Bury, Greater Manchester.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 87.84 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,108.16 cubic metres a day
  • 769,478.4 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for dewatering during construction of two below-ground offline storm water storage tanks at Bury Wastewater Treatment Works.
