Details of the application

United Utilities Water Limited has submitted two applications to the Environment Agency for water abstraction licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is to formally vary their existing abstraction licence which authorises abstraction of water at National Grid References SD 67 22 and SD 67 21 in Lancashire, for the purpose of public water supply.

They wish to vary their licence to remove a source of supply. Under the variation they will reduce their annual abstraction volume from 2,954.9 megalitres per year to 2,077.9 megalitres per year. There will be no changes to their daily maximum volume of 9,092 cubic metres per day.

The second application is for a full new abstraction licence for the purpose of public water supply at National Grid Reference SD 67 20.

The abstraction volumes of 9,092 cubic metres per day and 2,077.9 megalitres per year will be aggregated between the new abstraction licence and their existing abstraction licence.
