United Utilities Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number NW/075/0004/006, which authorises the abstraction of water from St Bees Sandstone at Aspartia, Cumbria at National Grid Reference NY 18 46.
The variation applied for is to increase the annual abstraction quantities until 31 March 2022. The current licence authorises abstraction up to 365,000 cubic metres per year. The proposed increase is to abstract 545,000 cubic metres per year. The hourly and daily quantities will not change (300 cubic metres per hour and 6,000 cubic metres per day). The increase is required to allow United Utilities to complete hydraulic testing of the new pipeline for the West Cumbria water supplies project.
