Details of the application
United Utilities Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of Stock Beck which becomes Birds Park Reservoir at National Grid Reference SD 53 93, to the east of Kendal.
The aim of this proposal is to lower the level of the reservoir and reduce its stored volume to 1,733 cubic metres. The embankment height will be reduced and a new over flow weir and channel will be constructed to reduce the reservoir storage capacity.
The proposed abstraction lies within the South Cumbria Catchment Abstraction Management Strategy reporting area.
