Details of the application

United Utilities Water Limited (UU) has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The applications are for two full licences to abstract water from groundwater at SD 43 01 and SD 40 01.

The first application at SD 43 01 is to abstract water as follows:

  • 334 cubic metres an hour
  • 8,000 cubic metres a day
  • 1,464,000 cubic metres a year

All year.

The second application at SD 40 01 is to abstract water as follows:

  • 334 cubic metres an hour
  • 8,000 cubic metres a day
  • 2,920,000 cubic metres a year

All year.

The water will be used for public water supply.

Further details are that the applications are part of a wider scheme and UU have also applied for the following:

  • To aggregate the daily and yearly quantities on the new licences with six existing licences to abstract from the same groundwater source (licence serial numbers 25 69 03 10 16, 25 69 031 017, 25 69 031 019, 25 69 031 020, 25 69 031 021 and 25 69 031 024).
  • To revoke an existing licence to abstract from the same groundwater source (licence serial number 25 69 031 018).
