Understanding and Exploring Co-existence Opportunities and Displacement Issues {MMO1338}
The aim of the project was to update two existing co-location matrices, originally produced over 10 years ago (MMO1010), to inform latest thinking on co-existence opportunities and challenges to inform marine plan development. The project also delivered five case studies to explore in detail some of the opportunities and challenges for co-existence.

In 2013, the MMO commissioned the development of a high-level co-location matrix to aid discussion with stakeholders and to inform marine plan development. Ten years on, we have delivered a refresh of this matrix, taking account of new activities and sectors as well as new technology to aid more opportunities for co-existence.
A PESTLE analysis (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Ecological) was completed on ten activity pairings to provide an overview of the potential conflicts (and is therefore not exhaustive). Alongside these, five detailed case studies were completed, including a more in-depth PESTLE analysis for each, to explore in detail the opportunities and challenges for co-existence. Both spatial and non-spatial issues were highlighted for both the pairings and case studies, that could inhibit co-location, and the potential impact and importance of the impact were considered.
A set of recommendations were developed to address the challenges highlighted and to discuss with stakeholders.
