Details

The government is undertaking research to understand the UK’s cyber security sector and how it is growing. The research informs government policy on cyber security. It is a follow-up to a similar survey cyber sector businesses may have done with us last year.

Ipsos has been commissioned to carry out the survey fieldwork, in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast’s (QUB) Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) and Perspective Economics. Fieldwork will take place by telephone from June to July 2022.

During this period some cyber sector businesses will be called by an Ipsos interviewer from their Edinburgh office (an 0131 number) inviting them to take part. They may also receive an email to let them know Ipsos has called, and inviting them to reply or complete the survey online.

Ipsos can give the following reassurances about the survey:

  • taking part is voluntary and fully confidential for all individuals and organisations
  • the survey is not trying to sell you anything

Who is being invited to take part?

Our research partner, Perspective Economics, has compiled a list of businesses in the UK cyber security sector from several sources, for example, the Beauhurst and Orbis databases. Within these organisations, Ipsos would like to speak to someone with an overview of your business’ products or services, and your business growth plans, in the cyber sector. This might be a company director, finance director or sales director.

You can download Ipsos’ privacy notice for the survey. This document explains the purposes for processing your personal data, as well as your rights under data protection regulations.

What does participation involve?

Participation will involve a telephone interview with an interviewer from Ipsos. On average, interviews last around 12 minutes, though the actual interview length may vary depending on the answers that respondents give. The interview will take place at a time that is convenient for each respondent.

If someone in your organisation requested it, you may also have received an email to let you know Ipsos has called and inviting you to reply.

Preparing for the first survey

To help cyber sector businesses select the right person in your organisation to participate, and prepare for the interview, Ipsos has created a pre-interview question help sheet.
