The Environment Agency has received a substantial variation application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010. They are now consulting on the proposed decision.

  • Brief description of activity: The main proposed changes within this variation are:
  • A change in gasification technology from a batch gasifier to a fluidised bed gasifier for the incineration of non-hazardous waste of capacity exceeding 3 tonnes per hour as listed in Section 5.1 A(1)(b) of Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Regulations;
  • A reduction in the capacity of the gasification facility to 55,460 tonnes per annum;
  • Amendments to the Anaerobic Digestion facility including increased electrical output of the CHP engines and the addition of a second waste dissolver;
  • The addition of a Road Sweeping Bulking Facility; and
  • A change in the odour control system to activated carbon filters.

The Recyclables Bulking Facility and Community Recycling Centre remain unchanged by this variation.
