Details

The development of Real-time Information (RTI) bus systems has been going on in some areas for many years, one of the biggest examples being London buses’ countdown system, a new version of which will be rolled out over the next couple of years.

In 2002, the Department for Transport, through the Transport Direct Programme, allocated £20 million to 19 local authorities to develop bus real-time information systems. This has acted as a catalyst to further implementations and extensions, as indicated in the annual survey of bus RTI systems, which shows growth in RTI provision each year.
