Trader and intermediary communications testing on UK transition: Appendix

Details

After 31 December 2020, a new border operating model was implemented in stages for trade between Great Britain and EU, alongside the Northern Ireland Protocol. Whilst the majority of traders knew they would need to take some actions to prepare for these changes, many had not taken action.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) commissioned Verian (formerly Kantar Public) to undertake qualitative interviews with EU traders and intermediaries to test communications. The test letter, email and text communications aimed to optimise traders’ understanding of action required for the end of the UK transition period.

Verian (formerly Kantar Public) conducted 45 in-depth online interviews: 30 with EU traders and 15 with intermediaries. The interviews achieved are not intended to be fully representative of all traders. All fieldwork took place between October and November 2020.
