Details of the application

The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/033/0053/143 which authorises the abstraction of water from the following surface watercourses:

  • River Nene (Old Course) from National Grid References (NGRs) TL 23745 90408 to TL 24442 88355
  • Holme Fen Engine Drain from NGRs TL 23003 90281 to TL 23674 90389
  • Yaxley Lodge, Black Ham and New or North Western Cut from NGRs TL 19575 91493 to TL 24174 91024
  • New Dyke from NGRs TL 23527 87060 to TL 21872 87173
  • Nine Unnamed drains within the Middle Level System centred around National Grid Reference TL 23173 89073

The variation applied for is as follows:

  • to increase abstraction between November and March inclusive from; 600 cubic metres per day to 2,000 cubic metres per day, 50 cubic metres per hour to 84 cubic metres per hour, 15.1 litres per second to 23.1 litres per second - the current annual quantity of 100,000 cubic metres and the purpose of storage for subsequent wetland conservation will remain the same
  • to increase abstraction between April and October inclusive from; 600 cubic metres per day to 900 cubic metres per day
  • to decrease abstraction between April and October inclusive from; 50 cubic metres per hour to 38 cubic metres per hour, 15.1 litres per second to 10.4 litres per second - the current annual quantity of 20,392 cubic metres and the purpose of wetland conservation will remain the same
