Details of the application

The Wildlife Trust Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/033/0053/143 which authorises the abstraction of water from the River Nene, Holme Fen Engine Drain and unnamed drains within the Holmewood and District Internal Drainage Board district at Holme, Cambridgeshire.

The variation applied for is:

  • To change the use of water from spray irrigation to wetland conservation
  • To incorporate the abstraction licenced under AN/033/0053/113. AN/033/0053/113 will be revoked
  • To add a winter abstraction (details below)
  • To remove the abstraction reaches currently licensed under AN/033/0053/143 and add the following new or extended abstraction reaches and point;

Further details are: The quantity of water applied for includes the quantity of water currently licenced under AN/033/0053/113 and AN/033/0053/143. The application also includes an application for new water, to be abstracted during the winter only. It is expected that the abstraction water level and flow restrictions as currently apply to licence AN/033/0053/143 and licence AN/033/0053/113, will also apply to this variation.

Maximum abstraction quantities applied for:

From 1 April to 31 October

  • 50 cubic metres an hour
  • 600 cubic metres a day
  • 20,392 cubic metres a year
  • 15.1 litres per second

From 1 November to 31 March

  • 50 cubic metres an hour
  • 600 cubic metres a day
  • 100,000 cubic metres a year
  • 15.1 litres per second
