Details of the application

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of drains feeding Boat House Sluice at National Grid References SD 42318 14915, SD 42395 14516 and SD 42405 14394.

Water will be obstructed or impeded to create a conservation area.

The capacity of the reservoir at overflow level will be 34,815 cubic metres.

Further details are: The proposal is to install 3 penstock structures which will hold back winter water levels within the drains and ditches on Martin Mere land until summer each year when water levels will be reduced.
