The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from a lake fed by groundwater (Lower Trent Sand and Gravels) at RSPB Langford Lowfields Reserve, Collingham, Nottinghamshire at National Grid References (NGRs) SK 81646 60530 and SK 81598 60124, to transfer it to reservoirs also fed by groundwater (Lower Trent Sand and Gravels) at the same site at NGRs SK 81629 60565 and SK 81534 60128, without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 4,032 cubic metres an hour
  • 96,768 cubic metres a day
  • 4,536,000 cubic metres a year
  • Abstraction will take place all year.

The abstraction is for the purpose of transferring water for creating wetland habitat.
