Details of the application

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number SO/040/0015/006 to abstract water from Denge Marsh at Dungeness for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use within the Denge Marsh RSPB Reserve for the benefit of breeding wading birds at NGRs TR 05891 18050 and TR 06007 18152.

The variation applied for is: an increase in annual abstraction quantity from 19,565 cubic metres per year to 45,045 cubic metres per year – all other abstraction quantities will remain the same.

Further details are: all abstracted water will continue to be returned to the artificial underground lake from which it is abstracted via seepage through the ground.
