This study helps to better understand how cultural, creative, heritage, tourism, civic, and sporting assets contribute to economic growth at the local level. The report explores DCMS sector assets which act as infrastructure due to the spillover effects they have both directly and indirectly to their local economies.
The research constructs a framework to evidence the mechanisms by which DCMS infrastructure influences local economic outcomes. It also breaks down local areas into six distinct place types to consider the opportunities and barriers that DCMS sectors have to grow across different place types.
This research omits the digital sector as it was produced before the July 2026 machinery of government change to integrate digital into the department’s portfolio.
