Details of the application

The Reading Sustainability Centre CIC has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number TH/039/0023/019 to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Thames at Caversham Weir, National Grid Reference (NGR) SU 72006 74124 for hydroelectric power generation.

The variation applied for is to change the proposed turbine type from 2 Archimedes Screw turbines to 2 Venturi-enabled Technology (VETT) turbines and vary the abstraction point to NGR SU 72018 74122, update the drawings attached to the licence and return the abstracted water to the River Thames at NGR SU 72031 74113.

The application is also to vary transfer licence serial number TH/039/0023/022 to abstract water from the River Thames at Caversham Weir at NGR SU 72072 74185 for maintaining flow through a fish and eel pass. The variation applied for is to move the point that water is returned from the River Thames from NGR SU 72039 74115 to SU 72031 74113 and to update the drawings attached to the licence.
