Details of the application

The National Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from three abstraction points, located at the Wicken Lode and Monks Lode watercourses at Lode Lane, Cambridgeshire at the National Grid References listed below;

At National Grid Reference (NGR) TL 54500 69650, the application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 108 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,600 cubic metres a day
  • 70,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 February and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for conservation and reed bed management.

At NGR TL 56825 69945, the application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 44 cubic metres an hour
  • 1,060 cubic metres a day
  • 120,000 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for conservation and wetland grazing.

At NGR TL 56081 70139, the application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 18 cubic metres an hour
  • 423 cubic metres a day
  • 64,719 cubic metres a year
  • between 01 November and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for conservation by restoring eco-hydrological conditions in Sedge Fen and Verrals Fen, part of Wicken Fen SSSI/SAC/RAMSAR.

The abstraction points are located within the Swaffham Internal Drainage Board.
