Details of the application

The National Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a full licence to abstract water from Combe Gill (tributary of River Derwent) at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 25104 12405.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 631.8 cubic metres an hour
  • 15,163 cubic metres a day
  • 5,534,568 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 175.5 litres per second.

All year.

The water will be used to generate hydro-electric power (HEP) and it will all be discharged downstream into the same watercourse via an outfall pipe at NGR NY 25329 13653.

The second application is for an impounding licence to impound water immediately upstream of the abstraction point on Combe Gill to facilitate HEP generation.
