An application has been made to the Environment Agency by The Lettuce Company Limited. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Chalk aquifer at New Barn Farm, Upper Stoke, Rochester, National Grid Reference (NGR) TQ 80586 75131.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 30 cubic metres an hour
  • 720 cubic metres a day
  • 150,000 cubic metres a year

All year.

The water will be used for spray irrigation of crops. Abstracted water will be stored in two reservoirs with combined capacity of 64,000 cubic metres. The proposal is part of a water rights trade with an existing Licence Holder.
