GCMG: Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George

Sir Simon GASS KCMG, CVO

Chair, Joint Intelligence Committee, Cabinet Office

Sir Simon Gass is recognised for an exceptional career contribution, most recently as Chair of the Joint Intelligence Committee, where he has expanded its work and remit and served as the principal adviser to the Prime Minister on intelligence during a time of consecutive major world events. This is in addition to strong contributions in previous roles, including HM Ambassador to Iran, the Political Director in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan.

Director-General and Chief Executive, International Institute for Strategic Studies

Dr John Chipman is recognised for his contribution over the last three decades as an internationally respected head of one of the world’s leading Security and Defence think tanks. His distinguished tenure as the Director-General and Chief Executive of The International Institute for Strategic Studies has been exceptional, not only in its length but also in the scale of his achievements. Through his leadership and dynamism, he has successfully taken the organisation to the centre of the global international relations stage.

Peter LEWIS CB

Lately Registrar, International Criminal Court, The Hague

Peter Lewis is recognised for his outstanding contribution and leadership in delivering institutional reform and budgetary discipline within the International Criminal Court, enabling it to more effectively pursue those who have committed atrocities around the world, including in Ukraine. His competence, drive for excellence and pursuit of value-for-money have significantly strengthened a key international institution and, in doing so, enhanced the reputation of the UK.

Richard MOORE CMG

Chief, Secret Intelligence Service

Richard Moore is recognised for his outstanding contribution to British foreign policy and national security as Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, leading the organisation during an exceptionally challenging period which has included the first major conflict on European soil since the Second World War. Before taking on his current role, he achieved diplomatic success in promoting UK interests as the Director General for Political Affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and before that, as British Ambassador to Turkey.

Terry WAITE CBE

Co-Founder and President, Hostage International

Terry Waite is recognised for an exceptional and sustained voluntary and charitable contribution since he was previously recognised with a CBE in 1992. Aged 84, he continues to provide emotional and practical support to those in need within the UK and internationally, including hostages and their families, children, young people and the homeless, delivered both in person and through the numerous charities and organisations he has founded or works with.

Lewis P. and Linda L. Geyser University Professor, Harvard University, United States of America

Oliver Hart is recognised for a sustained and exceptional contribution to economic theory. Winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, he is one of the outstanding economic theorists of our times, and has fundamentally changed the way in which academics, practitioners and policymakers view the operation of business and finance in the UK and around the world. His work on contract theory has had a profound influence on our understanding of the significance of the ownership and financing of firms, and has provided important insights concerning the choice between public and private ownership.
