The Governors of King’s School has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number 16/52/009/G/017 which authorises the abstraction of water from an underground strata comprising of Yeovil Bridport Sands/Inferior Oolite from two boreholes located at King’s School in Bruton, Somerset. National Grid References ST 68465 34669 and ST 68685 34583.
The variation applied for is as follows
- Increase the daily abstraction amount from 59 cubic metres a day to 82 cubic metres a day.
- Increase the annual abstraction amount from 11,365 cubic metres a year to 28,381 cubic metres a year.
The water will be used by the applicant as domestic water supply for the school and for spray irrigation of the sports pitches.
