The Environment Agency: application made to abstract water

Details of the application
The Environment Agency is applying to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The application is to temporarily vary the existing licence, and then renew the licence when it expires. The application is for a full abstraction licence to abstract (take) water from underground strata (Sherwood Sandstone) at Oxton, Nottinghamshire at National Grid Reference SK 61140 53810 for the purpose of augmenting flow in the Dover Beck for environmental support.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
Further details of the proposal are:
- to add a temporary increase in the overall quantity for the life of the licence from 345,600 cubic meters to 395,600 cubic meters until the licence ends in March 2024
- to renew the licence from 01 April 2024 and to retain the authorised annual abstraction quantity of 192,000 cubic metres per year
- to retain the authorised daily abstraction quantity of 1,000 cubic metres per day
- to include a limit on total abstraction of 559,961 cubic metres over the total duration of the licence between 01 April 2024 and 31 March 2029
- to time limit the licence to expire on 31 March 2029, adopting the shorter 5 year time limit that is now standard practice for licences within the Nottinghamshire Sherwood Sandstone Aquifer.

The licence shall be viewed as granted, unless the Secretary of State, either as a result of any representations made about the proposal or otherwise, instructs or asks for an application to be made to them.
