Details of the application

The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for a licence.

The application is to replace a non working existing sluice gate with a fish and eel pass at Leathermills Sluice on the Leathermills Channel of the River Nene at Cogenhoe, Northamptonshire at National Grid Reference SP 83138 61543.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

Further details of the proposal are: Fitted within the exiting channel structure will be a 1.23 metre wide Larinier type PVC tiled fish pass with a hydraulic invert crest level of 49.49 metres Ordnance Datum (positive) and a 0.51 metre wide PVC cone tiled eel pass with a cross fall (angled) intake with crest levels between 49.57 metres Ordnance Datum (positive) and 49.646 metres Ordnance Datum (positive). The crest level of the adjacent weir will be raised slightly to a maximum of 49.70 metres Ordnance Datum (positive) to ensure that there is a flow through the new fish and eel passes. The works have been designed to ensure that the replacement structure retains the same water levels as the existing structure and will have a negligible effect on the flow of the channel.
