Teddington Barge Lock repair works 2025: river closure notice
Updated 3 December 2025
When
Monday 17 November to Wednesday 10 December 2025.
Where
Teddington Lock.
Details
There is currently restricted access to navigation at Teddington Lock, which is normally open 24 hours. As Teddington Launch Lock remains out of service, the Environment Agency is managing navigation through Teddington Barge Lock. The Agency has established working practices which allow for operation of the barge lock. This will require two people to operate safely.
As part of the Environment Agency’s Capital Investment Programme, works at Teddington Barge Lock will take place between Monday 17 November and Wednesday 10 December 2025. Navigation through Teddington Barge Lock during this period will be operated at specific times.
Weekdays (Monday to Friday)
From Monday 17 November to Wednesday 3 December, Teddington Lock will be closed for navigation.
From Thursday 4 to Wednesday 10 December, Teddington Lock will be operational from 9am to 5pm, however boaters should expect significant disruption to navigation during these operational hours.
For more information regarding navigation through Teddington Lock please contact the lock office at 020 8940 8723.
For significant pre-organised events and clubs requiring passage during weekdays, requests for passage can be made 10 working days in advance by contacting WaterwaysThames@environment-agency.gov.uk.
The Environment Agency will try to accommodate these requests where possible, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
Staffing and the operation of Teddington Barge Lock has been reviewed and now allows safe operation of the lock between 9am and 5pm. Please be aware the last lock movement will be 30 minutes before closure.
Due to the revised process, passage through Teddington Lock may take longer than usual.
Outside of the stated times above, Teddington Lock will be closed for navigation.
For significant pre-organised events and clubs requiring passage outside of the stated operational hours, requests for passage can be made 10 working days in advance by contacting WaterwaysThames@environment-agency.gov.uk.
The Environment Agency will try to accommodate these requests where possible, but this cannot be guaranteed.
