Teddington Barge Lock closure 2025: river closure notice

Updated 7 May 2025

When

Wednesday 14 May 2025 until further notice.

Where

Teddington Lock.

Details

There is currently restricted access to navigation at Teddington Lock, which is normally open 24 hours.

As Teddington Launch Lock remains out of service, the Environment Agency is managing navigation through Teddington Barge Lock. The Agency has established working practices which allow for operation of the barge lock. This will require two people to operate safely.

Staffing and the operation of Teddington Barge Lock has been reviewed and now allows safe operation of the lock between 9am and 5pm. Please be aware the last lock movement will be 30 minutes before closure.

Due to the revised process, passage through Teddington Lock may take longer than usual.

Outside of the stated times above, Teddington Lock will be closed for navigation.

For significant pre-organised events and clubs requiring passage outside of the stated operational hours, requests for passage can be made 10 working days in advance by contacting WaterwaysThames@environment-agency.gov.uk.

The Environment Agency will try to accommodate these requests where possible, but this cannot be guaranteed.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this notice causes and thank you for your patience during this time. We will update this notice with more information as soon as possible.
