Tarmac Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a transfer licence to abstract water from River Terrave Gravel Deposits at Alrewas Quarry in the area outlined by National Grid References (NGRs): SK 16289 13242, SK 16979 13242, SK 16979 11879 and SK 16289 11879 to transfer it to tributaries of the River Tame at discharge points at NGRs: SK 16694 12783, SK 16995 12756, SK 16880 12763, SK 16970 13145, SK 16410 11667 and SK 16939 11626, and to Soakaways at NGRs SK 16669 11861 and SK 16835 13260 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 450 cubic metres an hour
  • 10,800 cubic metres a day
  • 480,000 cubic metres a year
  • Abstraction will take place all year.

Water is to be abstracted for the purpose of dewatering a proposed southern extension to facilitate the existing dry working of the mineral and the restoration activities at Alrewas Quarry. Dewatering will be by gravity flow to a sump and then water will be transferred via submersible pumps. The abstraction lies within the Tame Anker and Mease Abstraction Licencing Strategy reporting area.
