Tarmac Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Trent Valley Sand and Gravels (Superficial Deposits) and the Sherwood Sandstone aquifers at Swarkestone Quarry (southern extension) in Derbyshire. Water will be abstracted from within the boundary formed by straight lines running between National Grid References (NGRs): SK 33030 27800, SK 33770 28030, SK 34113 27274 and SK 33096 27121. The water abstracted will be transferred into the River Trent between NGRs SK 33970 27330 and SK 33200 27870, and into the Milton Brook between NGRs SK 33098 27244 and SK 33797 27227 without intervening use.

Abstraction will take place for the purpose of dewatering for mineral extraction.
