Tarmac Trading Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a transfer licence to abstract water from the Secondary ‘A’ sand and gravel underground strata between National Grid References SE 25669 97248, SE 26615 97817, SE 26900 97026 and SE 25751 96504 to transfer it to the River Swale at National Grid Reference SE 25707 97185 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 1,975 cubic metres an hour
  • 47,400 cubic metres a day
  • 17,301,000 cubic metres a year

Abstraction will take place all year round.

The proposed water transfer licence is for the purpose of dewatering new phases of an historic quarry operation for mineral working, located in the Swale (Middle) catchment in the Swale, Ure, Nidd and Upper Ouse abstraction licensing strategy area.
