Tanfield Springs Ltd has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 8 of The Water Abstraction (Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2017.
The application is to vary licence serial number NE/027/0022/049, which authorises the abstraction of water from a borehole at Stubbins Farm, West Tanfield, North Yorkshire at National Grid Reference (NGR) SE 24422 78197.
The variation applied for is to increase the existing borehole daily and yearly quantities as follows: from 250 cubic metres per day and 65,000 cubic metres per year, to 600 cubic metres per day and 219,000 cubic metres per year.
The application proposes to also abstract all year from a new borehole at NGR SE 24646 77919. The proposed quantities from this borehole, for the purpose of water bottling, are as follows:
- at an instantaneous rate of 6.95 litres per second
- 25 cubic metres an hour
- 600 cubic metres per day
- 219,000 cubic metres per year
