The proposal is to vary the permit to include the discharge of tunnelling effluent & muck bay drainage via a new outfall at the seaward end of a temporary jetty. The tunnelling effluent will be generated through the construction of the power station cooling waters system tunnels. It will include groundwater and contain low concentrations of soil conditioning chemicals. The muck bay drainage will consist of leachate from the tunnelling spoil containing low concentrations of soil conditioning chemicals and low volumes of groundwater, as well as a rainfall dependant element of surface water runoff from the muck bay curtilage.
