T. Wilson & Sons (Farmers) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Pennine Lower Coal Measures at Maggotts Nook Farm, Rainford, Merseyside at National Grid Reference (NGR) SD 48577 02626 and a full licence to abstract water from Randles Brook at Rainford between NGRs SD 47518 01535 and SD 47783 01612.

The application is to abstract water from the Pennine Lower Coal Measures at the following maximum rates:

  • 39.5 cubic metres an hour
  • 948 cubic metres a day
  • 100,000 cubic metres a year

40,000 cubic metres per year will be used for either direct spray irrigation, filling a reservoir for subsequent spray irrigation or discharge into the Randles Brook between April and September. 60,000 cubic metres per year will be used for vegetable washing between January and December.

The proposed abstraction from Randles Brook will only permit the re-abstraction of water that has been discharged from the applicant’s reservoir or borehole into the Randles Brook at Rainsford at NGRs SD 48985 02637 and SD 47955 02508.
